Todays installment brings me back to this USPS location in Irvine, CA. to exercise my freedom within publicly accessible areas of the property. I had a couple of points of contact on this one. The first came from a guy who stopped behind me in his vehicle. When I noticed the reflection in the window, I turned around to see a somewhat confused look on his face. He asked why I was recording. He then wanted me to take the camera off him as he said he would be making some calls as he rolled up his window & drove away. He came back some time later & parked at the end of the parking lot where I noticed he was giving a cam-back. The next point of contact came from a woman who stopped on her way out asking why I was recording. I told her I was hoping to get some customer feedback on their experience with the postal service. She stated she had to go pick up her child but then asked what company I worked for. I told her I worked for myself & then she asked if my camera was on. When I told her it was on she said she didn't want to be in the video, so I suggested that next time she encounters someone with a camera it's best to not stop in front of the camera if she doesn't want to be on it. She went out to her car, then came back inside to go address her concerns with the postal workers. I returned inside to see how this would play out & she took offense once again to my recording her. She then got on her phone to call 911. I suggested that she call the non emergency # in hopes of not wasting police resources. She returned to her car & eventually drove away. About 15 minutes had passed when Irvine Police arrived on the scene. The officer made contact with me, stating that they did receive a call regarding my recording & told me the calling party stated I put my camera in their face. I assured the officer that I was indeed recording , but my footage would show I never put my camera in anyone's face. The officer let me know they would be contacting the calling party to let them know I was within my rights to be recording on postal property.
