So, we grabbed the in-laws and headed for a seven-night cruise on a 24-year-old ship with an itinerary including 5 ports of call. This cruise offered just one sea day, making it ideal for families like ours who want to maximize port time. Celebrity’s all-inclusive pricing made it easier to enjoy all the perks like the Classic drink package and Wi-Fi at a lower price than a comparable cruise on Norwegian Viva. Exploring the Celebrity Summit The Celebrity Summit is a smaller, nearly 24-year-old ship, which initially raised some concerns for us—especially since we tend to sail on newer ships. However, it offered a sophisticated, relaxed atmosphere perfect for a destination-focused trip. We were pleasantly surprised with most public venues, from modern staterooms to updated public spaces. Dining and Drinks Aboard Celebrity Summit delivered excellent dining experiences, whether dining in the Cosmopolitan Restaurant or grabbing a bite at the Oceanview Cafe or Mast Grill. The ship also boasted several bars, including the Martini Bar and Cafe al Bacio. Activities and Entertainment From game shows to live music, the ship's entertainment wasn't as elaborate as what you’d find on a modern mega-ship, but we still enjoyed many of the offerings, like the Silent Disco, Totally 80’s Party, and various onboard activities. Shore Excursions in the Southern Caribbean This cruise was all about the ports of call, and we had an incredible time exploring each destination. In St. Maarten, we visited the famous Maho Beach and took a tour of the SXM Brewery. We embarked on a Panoramic Antigua tour in Antigua, followed by a relaxing beach break at Pigeon Point Beach. In St. Lucia, we visited the Sulphur Springs and took in the views of the Pitons. Barbados offers a unique underground adventure at Harrison's Cave, and in Dominica, we explore Titou Gorge and Trafalgar Falls. Each shore excursion is a highlight in itself, and we provide tips on booking through both the cruise line and third-party providers like Shore Excursions Group. Final Thoughts: Was This Family Cruise a Success? Looking back, we’re glad we booked this trip on the Celebrity Summit, even though we had some reservations. The smaller, more intimate ship was a great choice for our busy itinerary.
