Today I introduce my research on video games as a researcher with a PhD in Philosophy. I specialize in video game research, focusing on topics like roguelite games, indie games, and the intersection of philosophy and gaming. I frequently publish my work in academic game studies journals. I study video games not only because they are an important cultural phenomenon but because I love games. I think the connection between philosophy and video gaming has not been explored as much as it should have, so that’s what I’m trying to do in my work. So far, I’ve published four articles on video game research: one exploring Darkest Dungeon and the psychology of stress; another on Dwarf Fortress and existentialist philosophy; an article about video games, virtual reality, and immersion, where I dive into the concepts from the renowned philosophy book Reality+; and a study on genre theory, particularly "prototype theory" in cognitive science, applied to roguelike games. ____________________________ 00:00-01:27 Intro 01:27-03:24 Research on Videogames 03:24-04:45 Darkest Dungeon 04:45-05:31 Dwarf Fortress 05:31-08:21 Reality+ 08:21-09:34 Prototype theory 09:34-09:54 Outro _____________________________ Dwarf Fortress Paper: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/epub...
