Japanese aircraft carriers are a fascinating topic. One of the most studied topics in all of naval history, at that. The Kido Butai is legendary for the attack on Pearl Harbor. For the successes that followed...and the losses as well. However, there's one underappreciated aspect to those ships. The first of the type, Hosho. And the last of them, Katsuragi. Two very different ships in just about every way. And, yet, they were both *survivors*. Hosho and Katsuragi would both survive the Pacific War. It's an interesting quirk in history, I think. And why I chose to do this compilation of the two. Because despite their differences, there's more in common to these ships than you might think. Especially the end of their stories.
