The journey towards becoming a psychologist is unique for everybody, and finding the pathway that best suits your needs requires some reflection and research. In this video I break down three pathways to becoming a psychologist, assuming that you've completed a bachelor in science, majoring in psychology. The first two are well known but the third is still relatively new and has changed the landscape of becoming a registered psychologist in Australia. I give my opinion of what pathway I think is best for students currently in their undergrad (who aren't sure what they want out of a career in psychology yet), but ultimately acknowledge each pathway has pros and cons - it comes down to what suits your needs best. 📌 WATCH NEXT: Why Psychology Is a Great Career ➝ • Why Psychology Is an Amazing Career! 🧠📋✍️ ... Other Tips I recommend: -Talk to psychologists working in the area you're interested in - A great place to start networking is on LinkedIn. You'll be amazed by the kind of opportunities out there, which universities can sometimes lack in promoting. -If you'd like to become endorsed, pick the endorsement program you're most interested in (i.e., it's okay if you don't do clinical). There is a lot of scope to find your niche, create a business or find work, and have an immensely rewarding career in every endorsement pathway. -If you're not sure what you want to do with a career in psychology - besides reaching out and talking to people - try out some internships, part time jobs or volunteer opportunities to get a better sense of what skills you enjoy using. -Remember that the profession of psychology is a lifelong journey. You don't have to rush into anything if you're not sure and there's no such thing as a "wrong" choice. Give yourself permission to take time and reflect.
