From Lassington Oak Morris web page. About Lassington Oak are a men’s Cotswold morris side from Hignham, near Gloucester. But it doesn’t stop there….. singing, playing music until all hours, juggling, unicycling, escapology and balloon sculpting are amongst the sides other talents. Unlike many morris sides our kit is fairly plain, consisting of white shirt and socks, black britches and brown leather waistcoat. The bell pads worn below the knees have colourful oak leaf shaped felts on the oak leaf shaped leather pads. The kit reflects the clothing worn by Morris Men in past centuries, who would have been farm labourers and ordinary working village folk. The oak leaf pattern for the bell pads is in honour of the once mighty Lassington oak tree in Lassington Wood in Highnam. Sadly the tree is no longer alive but its trunk is still there. As well as fertility and fine weather the dance brings good luck in exchange for a few coins of the realm you may bring the ‘Luck of the Morris” to yourselves, the dancers and our charity beneficiaries. We welcome anyone who would like to try the Morris. No experience is necessary as full training given. If you would like to book the Lassington Oak Morris Men for your event, we would be pleased to accommodate you The Folk of Gloucester An exquisite 16th Century Tudor timber-framed building that was once the Folk Museum. It is now a Heritage Community Centre. We have bookable meeting rooms, a cafe, a peaceful garden as well as fun events. We are free to come and look around.
