Role of the Neuroscience Tissue Biorepository in the Research Pipeline

Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa and Dr. Diogo Moniz-Garcia, researchers from Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, review their article appearing in the February 2024 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, where with a total of 11,700 different specimens from 813 unique patients collected, and with 14.22% and 8.5% patients representing ethnic and racial minorities, respectively, including samples from a total of 463 unique patients with a primary CNS tumor, they found CSF and adipose tissue dedicated banks translated to efforts for 42 new active basic research projects. They established a comprehensive biobank with detailed notation and broad potential to help transform their practice of research and patient care and which has allowed them to grow in research and clinical trials in addition to providing a source of tissue for new discoveries.
