Translating the sub song (片尾曲) “Golden Lotus" (恨鎖金瓶) from Gentle Reflections 1994 (恨鎖金瓶) into English. Original Cantonese Song by Irene Wan (溫碧霞). This 1994 drama series is a loose adaptation of the novel "The Golden Lotus" (金瓶梅) which was published under the pseudonym of Lanling Xiaoxiao Sheng (蘭陵笑笑生). So basically the author is unknown. The novel itself elaborates on the backstory of a main character in the "Water Margin" (水滸傳) classic novel. The story was intriguing in parts, head scratching in other parts, and ended sadly for the sake of a sad ending. Irene Wan's character is a seductress that is mainly a victim of the circumstances. If placed in her shoes, one might have made the same bad choices... I really liked Irene's performance in this series. Kenix Kwok (郭可盈) on the other hand plays a Disney Princess like character who is innocent, smart and loved by all. But I find some of her choices quite disturbing, like marrying into an enemy family and basically achieving absolutely 'sweet nothing' and causing the death of her baby, which ends the bloodline of her beloved husband and a prominent family. I found her actions pretty dumb and ridiculous. Carol Yeung (杨羚) rounds out the main female cast. Her character is basically to be the neutral sworn sister that attempts to be friends with Irene and Kenix who slowly become enemies. Other notable female cast members included Josephine Lam (林琪欣), and Kit Chan (陳潔儀). The main male lead was Savio Tsang (曾偉權) who started off as a hunter turned into a local constable. He is a righteous and moral person, but is unfortunately tricked on a few occasions which impacts on his relationship with Kenix and they become separated. I've always liked Savio Tsang's acting. He was supported by Patrick Tam (譚耀文), Pal Sinn (單立文), Gordon Lam (林家棟), Rophen Yeung (杨得时), and Dick Liu (廖啟智). I liked Patrick Tam's character and absolutely detested Pal Sinn's character, which was to be expected. Whilst I titled this sub song as "Golden Lotus" which is just an alternate translation of the title of the series, the song actually has no name as it was never released. It is simply known as the "interlude" to Gentle Reflections 1994. It is a shame as the song is a wonderful song. I loved it so much that I lopped it to make it feel like a complete song.
