Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, Punjab Kings (PBKS) held a press conference and jersey unveiling event in Mohali (near Chandigarh) on Friday, March 20, 2026. Captain Shreyas Iyer and star pacer Arshdeep Singh addressed the media, focusing on team bonding, personal recovery, and their ambitions for the upcoming tournament. Reporter: You were a finalist last season. As a captain, how are you planning to build on that momentum to take the final step this year? Shreyas Iyer: We had a fantastic season as everyone knows, but it's important that we stay in the present. This is a new season and a new start. We start from the bottom—zero—and we need to see to it that we build the same amount of synergy and camaraderie which we had in the previous year. This is the time we come together, plan, and plot things. I'm glad we’ve got a couple of days heading towards our first match. I’m sure the boys are in best shape and the mindset and motivation level is high. The support and love from the fans is going to be essential. It’s a long way to go and I'm looking forward to a brilliant one. Reporter (in Punjabi): Arshdeep, you always stay very composed in pressure situations. Your calm smile makes everyone else composed too. When the stadium is under pressure and the audience is cheering, how do you keep yourself calm? Also, being a key bowler, how important is your role this season? Arshdeep Singh: First, Sat Sri Akal to everyone and thank you for the support. Regarding the pressure—I feel it too, but I try not to let the people in front of me realize it. My heart rate is very high inside! I just try to execute what I have practiced. When you put in the hard yards in practice, you don't feel as much pressure during the match. But feeling pressure is also a privilege because it means people have expectations of you based on what you’ve done in the past. I enjoy situations where the team needs a breakthrough or needs to defend something. Regarding my role, Shreyas articulated it well—we are keeping what we did last year in the past and focusing on our new tagline: "Bas Jeetna Hai" (Just Have to Win). It’s a collective manifestation from the management, players, and fans. Reporter: Shreyas, you have captained many teams like Kolkata and Delhi. How special is the "Punjab da Sarpanch" tag the fans have given you? Shreyas Iyer: I got this tag last year. I actually had to ask people what it meant—I asked Arshdeep and he explained that a "Sarpanch" is the head of a community. It has grown on me. Even when I'm walking on the street, people call me that. It feels good and motivates me. Coming into this season, expectations will be high, which is fun. I love the challenge. We have a great team to meet that challenge, but the most important thing is that whenever we step on the field, we just have to win. Reporter (in Punjabi): It is a challenge for both of you when you play against players you know well and whose strategies you know. Is it easier or more difficult to play against them? Arshdeep, specifically for you when you have to bowl to someone like Virat Kohli? Arshdeep Singh: During practice, I try to look for their weak spots and I try not to show them any new balls or skills I've learned so I can use them as a surprise. Jokes aside, I just try to give my best for whichever team I am representing. National duty comes first where I give 100%, but here I will give 120%! I keep their weaknesses in mind for when I play against them in the future. Shreyas Iyer: When we represent the country, we know how the opposition is playing. When we come back, there is a brief period to work on ourselves. I don't think you can suddenly plan exactly what to do against someone. We have a great team of analysts and support staff who work on those aspects and give us information right before the game so we can adapt. Reporter: Are there any injury issues in the team? Shreyas Iyer: I am not aware of any injury issues in our team at the moment. Reporter: Shreyas, you mentioned a severe injury earlier. How difficult was it to set the tone right again? Shreyas Iyer: It is always challenging to come back after an injury. I had lost around 7kg of weight; it was a severe one. Thankfully, I was in great shape after two months. I had to pass several tests, and it took a lot of effort to gain that weight back. As I mentioned, I love challenges, and that was one I had to overcome. I’m proud of myself for overcoming that part of my life and being back here representing this team, as well as representing India in the previous series. Reporter: How do you adapt to the conditions in the first match at home? Arshdeep Singh: As Shreyas said, it’s very important to adapt. The faster you adapt to the situation, the opposition's play, and the conditions, the better your results will be. You have to plan and execute better and faster than the other team.
