The New Chopper Prototype for the Double Chop and Cross Chop Technique

I have worked with Katena to design a new chopper which is ideal for the double chop and cross chop technique. The prototype is called the Kim Double Chopper. I worked on determining the ideal shaft length. The shaft of the He Hook chopper is too short and sometimes will abut against the limbus when trying to extend the chopper deeper or more toward the contralateral side. The shaft of the Seibel is too long and feels too far away when performing the double chop and cross chop maneuver. The new chopper is just right. It doesn't abut against the limbus and is not too far away during the chop maneuvers. The shaft angle is also ideal. The He Hook was much too acutely angled, but then again one can certainly bend it to the desired angle. The tip is 0.1mm longer than the He Hook or Seibel. This allows easier chopping with less chance for slippage or incomplete chopping. The tip is also rounded and posterior capsule friendly. The He Hook chopper has a thicker tip and has difficulty passing through a sub-1mm paracentesis incision. The new chopper passes very easily and is sturdy enough at the neck to endure wear-and-tear. I believe the new chopper, Kim Double Chopper, is the ideal instrument for the double chop and cross chop technique. And I anticipate that it will be available through Katena soon.
