The latest update on Chennai Airport’s T3 Terminal (the second phase of the New Integrated Terminal Building) is a bit of a mixed bag. While work is picking up pace, the official completion date has been pushed back. As of December 2025, here is the status update: 📅 New Timeline & Delays Revised Opening: The terminal is now expected to open for passengers by December 2026. Previous Target: It was originally slated for completion by July 2025, and then March 2026, but various factors have caused an 18-month delay. Current Progress: Approximately 27% of the construction is complete. 🏗️ Why the Delay? Several factors have slowed down the Phase II expansion: Structural Safety Audit: The contractor requested a thorough audit to check the structural load and the safety of the routes used to transport heavy materials to the site. Cost Escalation: Rising material prices led to negotiations between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the contractor regarding the project budget. Complex Logistics: Because the construction is happening in the middle of a fully operational international airport, work must be carefully timed to avoid disrupting active flights. ✨ What to Expect in Terminal 3 Once finished, T3 will be the final piece of the Integrated Terminal Building, boosting the airport's capacity to 35 million passengers per annum. Key features include: 60 Check-in Counters and over 100 immigration counters. 8 New Aerobridges for seamless boarding. Advanced Baggage Systems with automatic tray returns and 10 new X-ray scanners. Live Monitoring: To prevent further delays, AAI has installed CCTV cameras for real-time monitoring of the work progress by the AAI Chairman. Current Layout Reminder: If you are flying soon, remember that Terminal 2 (T2) is currently handling international operations, while Terminals 1 & 4 handle domestic traffic. The old T3 was demolished to make way for this new, modern structure. #chennainews #chennai #livechennai #chennaiairport #t3chennai
