Deciding if living in an apartment is right for you is a hard choice. There are many things to think about during this process. I hope this video can shed some light into my personal experience of living in an apartment and some of the benefits ive experienced, and some of the negatives as well. Description: Maintenance Not having to worry about maintenance is huge. We all live busy lives and when things break that can be even more stressful. When you live in an apartment most of these issues are the responsibility of the landlord. Such as the heater breaking maybe the fridge goes out You just put in your request and it gets taken care of. Amenities For me amenities were a huge selling point of living in an apartment. I liked the idea of having access to certain things that most homes would not have. For example I love my trash valet, it providI es a certain convenience I didn’t know I needed. Like being able to leave the trash outside so it doesn’t make your apartment smell. Other amenities such as having an in house gym or having a pool were major selling points for me to. But I cannot forget the amenity that is a money savor and that’s having a Starbucks machine and access to it for free. And I promise your favorite drinks still taste the same. Great for living on your own. When choosing to live in an apartment I felt that it was essential for me to feel comfortable being in my own and not wanting to have a random roommate was huge for me. So having the option to pay for a one bedroom without any significant premium can make you feel more comfortable if you choose to move out on your own. Also you don’t have a ton of space that you need to furnish so that also helps the ole bank account. Finally the location selection of your apartment. What I liked about shopping for an apartment is it allowed me to live in the part of the city of my choosing. For me I personally wanted to live in a fairly new revitalized area of town that is walking distance to the bars, restaurants and one of my selling points is being walking distance to my gym. If I wanted to live in the suburbs there were also brand new apartments that were even more luxurious than where I am currently at. Now it’s time to go over the cons!! And there are plenty of them. Starting off is your lack of personalization you can add to your apartment if you are someone who is obsessed with HGTV home renovations and want to do them you can’t. In most apartments you can’t because of the rules set by the land lord. So it’s something to think about. The next thing is noise and other people around. When you live in an apartment you are surrounded by dozens of other people. They will be next to you beneath you or above you. Avoiding other people’s noises is almost impossible. Most apartments have quiet hours but, as always some rules are just broken. Just the other day on good ole st pattys day I was glad to be awoken at 12am by some drunk girls yelling in the hallway. And I’m almost positive they don’t even live on my floor.... so there’s always experiences like that. Finally one of my biggest pet is parking for some reason apartment complexes don’t want to create enough parking for all the residents it doesn’t make sense to me but it’s definitely a thing. For example if I leave on a weekday to the gym at 8 I guarantee I parking outside my apartment complex where it is not gated and right next to the train. This is a major con for me since I’m always paranoid of a rock hitting my car and shattering a window but it’s definitely a con there
