Corsair Dash 750 MK 1 Trimaran

This is the Corsair 750 Dash MK 1 version, the new MK 2 has more volume in the floats and they have removed the carpeted interior adding some wooden trim. Its near twin the Corsair Sprint has less sleeping space and more cockpit and is built for racing. This is the first Corsair I have seen close up - obviously never going to be in the Jens Quorning Dragonfly league in quality or comfort but a 2nd hand DF 28 is 2 - 3 times the cost....bugger and dam....and you would require a serious vehicle for towing it! Nevertheless the Dash 750 is an excellent and "affordable" Trimaran - well affordable in the boat world at least! As mooring and maintenance costs rise I can see this type of trailered boat becoming very popular indeed. I was able to compare the F27 moored starboard side although bigger the Dash 750 (24 feet) utilizes the space more efficiently than the F27 - pity about the central daggerboard housing! I would say the interior is aprox the same size as a Hunter 22 Monohull. Typical of most Tri's it can be trailered, the chap I was speaking to said he had towed this boat on the rear of his VW Estate Car, impressive for a 24 foot boat like this. It can also be launched in 2 foot of water, can power up the river at that depth, has a top speed in excess of 20 knots under sail. Despite its CE Rating of C it could easily be sailed across the English Channel in reasonable weather. Sleeping aboard is camping level comfort and is more suited to a couple. For three burly blokes it would get crammed and ripe after a few nights on the ocean living off beans and curry! To escape the grunting and snoring you could always pitch a tent on the trampoline at anchorage! Personally I would also consider some form of Cockpit Tent for anchorage, particularly in our fickle British climate which would add live aboard space and the area could be used for a portable toilet or even a small battery or solar bag shower. I would also add some form of spray cover for the gas strut lid. Corsair say it takes 30 minutes to rig but an hour is more realistic. The whole vessel from trailer to water can be handled by 1 man as well as sailed single handed. I would say these Tri's make excellent all round recreational boats - diving, snorkelling, fishing, and general relaxing on the big trampolines.....with all the advantages of them it surprises me why people still insist upon slow and cumbersome Monohulls. They are also harder to sink than any Monohull. The only thing to watch is reefing down early in high wind as there is a possibility of capsize if the boat becomes overpowered. Maintenance - if trailered is frankly minimal which for most of us with limited time and budgets is an absolute must. Apart from the engine service £50 if you do it yourself and the annual anti foul +/ - £100 and the usual interior cleaning and greasing of trailer bearings that is just about it really. Corsair production is now in Vietnam, initially there were some quality concerns but apparently it was more perception than an actual decline in production quality. Like most I am very skeptical about Chinese/ Asian production (anything) but have to say believe this to be a well thought out and constructed boat. This particular sports model (with a Kevlar Sail rig) retails at GBP 50K new, second hand probably GBP 35K'ish. Overall I have to say a great Trimaran - I would certainly purchase one of these as it would be great for my wife and I.
