The Hike to Hell Creek Cave Natural Area, Mountain View, AR.

Take the short hike to Hell Creek Cave with us! Located near Mountain View, AR, Hell Creek Cave Natural Area is an Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission Property. We recently hiked to hell again, for the first time in a few years, and our hiking partners for the day were the Grassy Road Cabins & Camping Family - a fun group to stay with, never mind explore with! The trailhead for this hike is very easy to find. Descending leaves made the trail a little patchy to follow at times, but the creek bed is only 0.2 miles from the parking area. It's all downhill, and on the reverse journey, the only little stretch that would catch you breathing heavily... When you meet the creek bed, turn left and follow it "downstream". I've never been here when there has been much water in it at all, and perhaps I wouldn't wish to be. This crazy creek bed dries out quickly, but sure is a wonder to wander none the less. There are nooks and crannies to explore everywhere, and of course, the big hole itself that you came here for. In places, the creek bed forms a rugged staircase, where the water has eroded the bedrock and has created a myriad of cool but weird channels to follow. You may have to hop a crevice or two as you work your way down to Hell Creek Cave, but nothing of significance in terms of difficulty. With so much to see and do in the area, consider staying in a cabin or glamping tent with our friends at Grassy Road, about 40 mins away. Grassy Road also offers tent camping and RV parking. Before you go, keep in mind that phone signal is poor at best in most areas. Download digital maps you may need in advance.
