In this video, I walk through how to fix the AddEvent 414 error message “Request URI too long” (the requested URL’s length exceeds the capacity limit for the server) This message appeared when I clicked “Add to calendar” while testing calendar links for two upcoming program tour dates (March 4 and March 18) for my Recipe for Social Selling on LinkedIn. I share the troubleshooting steps I tried first, including Googling the issue, using AddEvent’s AI help bot, testing in an incognito window, and disabling Bitdefender after being told Chrome extensions like DuckDuckGo or Bitdefender could be the cause—none of which resolved it. I then explain how I used Gemini to identify the real problem: the event description was too long, which made the generated URL extremely lengthy (about 6,500 characters). To fix it, I edited the AddEvent listing by removing extra formatted content (tables, bullets, and extended copy), keeping only the core details (what it is, date/time with multiple time zones, and the Zoom link) and directing people to my landing page for full information. After saving the shortened event and refreshing the AddEvent landing page, the “Add to calendar” option worked again and the event successfully saved to Google Calendar without the error. 00:00 Why AddEvent Shows “Request URI Too Long” (What You’re Seeing) 00:23 Brenda’s Setup: Testing a Program Tour Invite + Add-to-Calendar Link 01:03 Reproducing the Error on the Add-to-Calendar Click 01:20 Troubleshooting: Google Search, AI Bot, and Extension Suggestions 02:41 Using Gemini to Diagnose the Real Cause: URL/Description Too Long 03:14 What Caused It: Overstuffed Event Description (Tables, Bullets, Extra Copy) 04:12 The Fix: Shorten the Event Description and Point to the Landing Page 05:43 Retest Live: Refresh, Add to Google Calendar, and Confirm It Works 06:27 Wrap-Up: Share the Tip, Comments, and Subscribe Check out my signature program, "The Recipe for Social Selling on LinkedIn" here: https://www.mellermarketing.com/recipe Not ready to join yet?
