ayyyy i'm back at it with another animatic, animation, lyricstuck, whatever you want to call it - this time with nami! woo! of my four one piece videos, this one has been the most work BY FAR, with a whopping... 77 frames, plus 10 unique frames of animation for the beginning. i ANIMATED for this sucker, yall. is it GOOD animation? no! but i sure did it. like elephant king, i found this song in 2013 and have associated it with nami for many, many years. even if the lyrics don't always fit quite right, or the original meaning of the song doesn't align, the SPIRIT of the song does - the dark words with the intensely upbeat, energetic sound. so of course as i was planning this out i found myself doing an "arlong park speedrun" (as i put it in my notes) and getting all the sad backstory stuff out of the way in the first quarter.... leaving most of the art to just be Nami Highlight Reel. this means so much of it was SO MUCH FUN to draw. i got excited several times just thinking about how much i love nami, tbh. most of it ended up pre-timeskip because that part of the story seems to have stuck in my head better, lol. in all of these videos i make, i use a limited color scheme (ever since elephant king, it's expanded from 4 colors to 5, with one allowance of a frame with a white background for emphasis). because of that, i find myself making clear patterns with the colors - the same thing as seen in each frame will be the same color - and slowly i build some sort of symbolism. in "secret for the mad", the color symbolism was mostly relegated to the backgrounds, but in this one, i had a lot of fun with blue. here the blue ended up symbolizing money and nami's past - whether that's her abuse by arlong, or her home. sometimes i just used blue because i needed a dark color or it worked for the scene, but keep your eyes peeled for the blue! this took me about 9 days of work; i started on the evening of august 14, got all the sketches and animation done in two days, then spent the next week doing almost nothing but drawing the frames. it's hard work but someone's gotta push through the adhd :pensive: anyway, if you're interested you can find me at these locations! tumblr (main): tango-whiskers.tumblr.com tumblr (one piece blog): robean-chan.tumblr.com twitter (if i post art it's usually hermitcraft): twitter.com/pmsec_mrfrog thank you for watching! stay safe, be kind.
