Top 10 Most Incredible Ancient Structures While the humans of centuries past may not have been as advanced as we are today, they were still nothing short of impressive. That’s because ancient temples, burial grounds, and theatres often rival their modern counterparts, as their size, detail, and materials are often superior to that of structures built today. However, despite this, there are still a number of ancient ruins that, despite being in relatively good shape, are still largely unknown. So today, we’re going to be giving you the inside scoop on these fantastic buildings by counting down the Top Ten Most Incredible Ancient Structures! But before we do, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and smash that notifications button so that you never miss out on any of our latest content! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10. Newgrange Although Eastern Ireland may look like little more than green fields and large farms, it turns out that it is home to an ancient relic that is one of the most mysterious on the planet. That’s because it is in this landscape that a large circular mound known as Newgrange cna be found. Measuring in at 85 meters in circumference and 13 meters in height, it is believed that it was made by local farmers about 5,200 years ago out of about 200,000 tonnes of rock. And while it goes without saying that its construction would have been quite the task, no one is completely sure why it was built, although it was most likely used as a burial ground, temple, and calendar. Regardless, we’re sure that Newgrange must have been the place to be in Ancient Ireland! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. Sanchi Stupa If you are of the Buddhist faith, chances are that you’ve heard of Sanchi Stupa, which is more commonly known as the Great Stupa. That’s because this temple, which was built around the year 300 BC by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka, holds the distinction of not only being one of India’s oldest buildings, but also the site of the Buddha’s ashes. And while we can’t be entirely sure that they are truly housed there, what we do know is that the temple is absolutely stunning, as its large dome shape, many pillars, and beautiful gateways truly mark it as unique. As a result, not only is it a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but it has also become a popular tourist and pilgrimage site for Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike! 8.The Pons Fabricus While bridges aren’t always considered to be the most impressive structures, few come anywhere close to the Pons Fabricus. That’s because this bridge has truly stood the test of time, as despite being built all the way back in the year 26 BC to connect Tiber Island to the Campus Martius in Rome, it is still in use today. This is largely because not only was it constructed out of high quality materials such as tuff and peperino stone, but because it also has an innovative additional arch in its center pier, which ultimately gives high waters an escape route while alleviating pressure on the hefty foundation. As a result, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Pons Fabricus has been able to stave off heavy erosion and is still mostly intact despite its age! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. The Great Wall of China While there are many famous walls out there, few are quite as recognizable as the Great Wall of China. That’s because this massive structure, which stretches across the North of the country for about 21, 196 kilometers, was easily one of the most time consuming yet incredible infrastructure projects ever undertaken.
