Ruby's First Overnight Canoe Trip | Ojibway Lake | Autumn Camping

Ruby and I join my friend, Jim Dodd, for a 2 night camp on an island in Ojibway Lake, east of Ely, MN. The 3 days we picked corresponded with a warm spell with day time temperatures hitting the low 80's. It did cool off considerably at night and the breeze coming off the lake kept it from feeling uncomfortably warm. Ruby adds moments of comic relief along the way. Ojibway is just outside the Boundary Waters but has 2 USFS campsites. There are also cabins on the lake so you do have to put up with the occasional sounds of civilization, especially this time of year when the owners are preparing said cabins for the long winter ahead.
