Former Mayor Otis Johnson Discusses the W.W. Law Exhibit at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center

Five Years That Changed Savannah Forever: Reflecting on the Civil Rights Movement through the W. W. Law Photograph Collection. Guest curator and former Savannah Mayor Dr. Otis S. Johnson discusses the images, W. W. Law, and his personal experiences as a participant in Savannah’s Civil Rights Movement. The exhibition documents five of the most turbulent years of the Civil Rights Movement, 1960-1965, through approximately forty photographs from the W. W. Law Collection. Each image tells the story of Civil Rights in Savannah through the lens of W. W. Law’s work as president of the Savannah Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Mayor Johnson was the first African American to attend and graduate from Armstrong State College, and is the author of From “N-Word” to Mayor: Experiencing the American Dream. The exhibition will be on view at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center from November 21st through December 14th.
