Tile Bathroom Renovation Part7, Grouting everything.

SUBSCRIBE Learn how tile the right way This will be a series of videos detailing the major steps of the installation of some huge 48" long tile in a shower stall and the vanity wall along with part of the adjacent walls. In part 3 We see the flood test and how to install a large format tile on a shower floor with a linear drain. Linear drains, also known as line drains, or trench drains, are becoming more and more popular, because they open up possibilities for tile that are not available with a regular point drain. With linear drain, the shower floor will be flat, but inclined or pitched to the drain. This means that large format tiles can be used on the shower floor, small mosaics are still an option, but not a necessity. It is important to choose a suitable tile that will not become slippery in a wet environment like a shower, if large tile sizes will be installed on the shower floor. The problem with using mosaic tiles on these types of drains, is that water can puddle just in front of the drain if steps are not taken to accommodate the double thickness of membrane where they overlap to ensure a watertight shower floor. In this video I show how to how to install large tiles on the shower floor and the tileable drain grate. A Schluter Kerdi line drain is the product used for this shower floor In part 4 I go over some important points about installing this very large tile on the shower walls and how I finished the full length niche on the back wall of the shower. In part 5 i have sped up the whole installation into a time lapse from the bare plywood floor to the finished tile installation. In Part 6 I show the installation of the walls adjacent to the vanity demonstrating how to measure and cut for multiple holes for outlets and light fixtures with round bases. In part 7 I show the installation of the Vanity or feature wall and how I install very large 48"x18" textured high gloss tile. This wall has a multitude of holes and difficult cuts to deal with. In this part 8 I grout the entire bathroom including the shower walls, shower floor, main floor and feature wall. Because the tiles are so big the grout process slightly differently than it would be when grouting smaller tiles. The grout is applied concentrating on the grout lines instead of smearing the grout across the entire surface of the tile.
