A weekend of 60163 Tornado | 7th & 8th December 2019

What do you do when your favourite mainline steam engine is running on routes near you for 2 days? Well if you're mad like me, you chase it as much as possible! My 2nd visit to Bath in a week saw me first catch Tornado on "The Christmas Bath and Bristol Express" from Wolverhampton. The outward run was not easy to chase, so I chose the same location I did for Clun Castle the week before, Oldfield Park, where the A1 gives a great performance to the onlookers. The return was slightly delayed due to a late service train causing the coaching stock to arrive late into Bristol and therefore leave late and it was touch and go as to how it would pan out. We start at Bath Spa where Tornado picks up her passengers for the journey home. With her late running, she skipped one of her pathing stops and my next location, Chippenham, was out of the question, but to my relief I saw that my train to Swindon was to be put infront of Tornado and therefore I managed to catch it there, before heading to Reading where Tornado would come off the train and head to Southall for the following days tour, and we see this movement at Slough. Meanwhile a Class 67 took the tour back to Wolverhampton. The next morning, we headed to the ECML for a special tour in regards to Tornado. For the first time in 6 years, she would haul a railtour with Steam Dreams, after they changed to West Coast Railway Company in 2013, and with Tornado now under operation with West Coast, she could rejoin the Steam Dreams fleet and I hope this is the start of many future tours where we see the A1 with Steam Dreams. The tour would start at Ealing Broadway and head to Lincoln, before terminating at Kings Cross. The outward run again proved to be difficult to chase so the only other daylight shot of the video sees the A1 steaming passed Hadley Wood. A Class 67 charter was also heading to Lincoln and with it being 30 minutes late it was just infront of Tornado, resulting in 2 charters passing within 10 minutes. In amongst the approaching wind storm (by that I mean the weather - Storm Atiyah, not the locomotive!) the return sees the A1 chiming through Grantham and speeding through Sandy, before I decided to get one more shot at Finsbury where despite the signal going green the A1 didn't open up till the smokebox was next to me. Finally, we see the A1 in Kings Cross before it would head back to Southall to end what was a fantastic weekend! Thanks to Sam (Flyin9 Scotsman), Matt (Tail Lamp Productions), Hilary (Hils TheTrainLady), Edward (EH Steam Videos), Tom (TH Railway Videos) and Mark for the company over the weekend. Special mention also goes to Jack (JP SteamMedia) for the lift to Grantham and Sandy on the return of Sunday's trip. ▼Photos▼ •https://www.flickr.com/photos/1550325... •https://www.flickr.com/photos/1550325... •https://www.flickr.com/photos/1550325... •https://www.flickr.com/photos/1550325... ▼Social Media Links▼ •Facebook:   / themodsterpage   •Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/1550325...
