The Sunday, July 25, 2021 talk and meditation from the service titled, "The Unitive Way and Jesus’ Teachings - #2” as through Rev. Larry Schellink. Thank you for your understanding in advance while we bring our technology up to current requirements for in-house services and web broadcasts. In the preface to Part 2 Rev. Schellink explains: We are often asked if Unity is a Christian Church. This requires more than a yes or no answer. The foundations of Unity are rooted in Christianity. The ideas in the teachings of Jesus and the Unitive philosophy are present in many of the world’s spiritual traditions. This philosophy tells us that there is no separation even though the content of the teachings may be different, and in this understanding, we honor and respect all paths to God. So the answer to the question is “yes it is Christian, and not in the traditional sense.” Jesus’ teaching is to ‘love your neighbor as yourself’ This speaks to the idea of oneness. Loving someone AS yourself means more than just loving them like you love yourself. It means that there is recognition of our oneness and that loving myself means loving you and loving you means loving myself. We enjoy and embrace our differences and we know that underneath is only oneness. This is high-level consciousness and Jesus spoke to it repeatedly. The ego mind, or ego operating system as author, Cynthia Bourgeault (The Wisdom Jesus) calls it, equates being different as being separate. We seek to release these thoughts from our ego-mind and call forth this Unitive consciousness. Jesus offers us a path to our own transformation. His teachings always point us in the direction toward our inner divine nature. Realization of the Truth is what saves and enlightens us and alleviates our suffering. The Truth will set us free. What is beyond the egoic operating system is the heart. It is where our spiritual wisdom resides. It is the part of us that sees wholeness and oneness. In wisdom the heart is the seat of spiritual knowing. It shows us the Unitive way. It helps us release our suffering, and from our highest selves we experience our oneness with God and with each other. Rev. Larry Schellink is an ordained Unity minister blog writer, and spiritual coach, who has served as senior minister at 4 Unity communities in California since 1996.
