Firefighters Pursue EMT Certification

The Daviess County Fire Department is part of a consortium offering an accelerated EMT program for new hires that lack the certification. Jake Cox and Dinah Chapman are leading the class through Owensboro Community & Technical College. This week, students were preparing for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) with a final exam and skills test. Cox says the accelerated EMT program has expanded the applicant pool for firefighters and helped with recruitment at both the city and county. Also, students are training with the same equipment they will use on response calls, so they are ready upon passing the national registry.
