A horrifying incident has shaken village Rajgarh in Raikot tehsil, where a drunk son brutally killed his 75-year-old father late last night around 10 PM. The accused, identified as Avtar Singh (40), attacked his father Boota Singh, a retired Punjab Police Home Guard, by hitting him with bricks, leading to his death on the spot. According to Boota Singh’s wife Manjeet Kaur and daughter-in-law Veerpal Kaur, the accused was addicted to alcohol and often created chaos at home. On the night of the incident, after returning home drunk, he tried to set the kitchen on fire using a gas cylinder. When his father stopped him, he got furious and started beating him. In a fit of rage, he picked up a brick and struck his father on the head, killing him instantly. Neighbors rushed in after hearing the screams and informed the police. SHO Gurdeep Singh from Sudhar police station reached the spot, sent the body to Ludhiana for post-mortem, and recorded family statements. Police revealed that Avtar Singh had a criminal history — in 2020, he was involved in a fight with his cousins that led to his uncle’s death, for which he had served 22 months in jail. Following the incident, villagers are in deep shock and anger over the brutal killing of a respected elderly man known for his calm and kind nature.
