Isle Lost: The Politics and Poetics of Postcolonial National Identity in "Map of the Invisible World" Drawing on Fredric Jameson’s 1986 essay, “Third-World Literature in the Era of Multinational Capitalism,” this lecture elucidates the ways in which Tash Aw’s novel Map of the Invisible World provides alternative imaginations of the postcolonial body-politic, particularly in the context of racialized and ethnonationalist discourses that attended the novel’s representations of anti-colonial nationalism in Indonesia at the height of the Cold War. About the Speaker Kristine Marie Reynaldo is an assistant professor at the Department of English and Comparative Literature, University of the Philippines Diliman. Her research interests include post/colonial modernity and decolonial studies, Southeast Asian Anglophone literature, and legacies of US imperialism and the Cold War.
