In case of tube rupture of the fired heater part of Hydrotreating, Hydrocracking or SAF Unit perform the following steps: 1. Activate depressurization system of reactor circuit 2. Shut off the fuel supply and return lines to the fired heaters 3. Do not close the stack dampers of fired heaters 4. Shut down and block in the makeup, recycle gas compressors, the treating reactor charge pump, and the EHS bottoms pumps 5. After the system is depressured, connect nitrogen to both sides of the heater and purge through to the rupture to prevent air from back flowing through the rupture and forming an explosive mixture with hydrocarbons. Nitrogen is preferable to steam for catalyst protection and for the protection of the austenitic stainless-steel piping and equipment 6. Steam can be introduced to the fire box once the fire has been extinguished to provide additional cooling. Snuffing steam should not be used until the fire is extinguished since adding snuffing steam to the fire box with a tube rupture could push the fire out of the fire box!
