The opening act for all of the shows was the Devadip Orchestra, a short-lived group led by Carlos Santana. The tour started on October 30th, 1978 at Wembley Arena in London, England and ended on December 10th, 1978 at Marché aux Fleurs in Nice, France. (Wikipedia). The Devadip Orchestra isn't a traditional band but refers to projects led by Carlos Santana under his spiritual name, Devadip, given by guru Sri Chinmoy, meaning "light of God," with his jazz-oriented albums like The Swing of Delight featuring stellar jazz musicians like Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis' alumni in a spiritual, fusion style. These albums, including Illuminations (with Alice Coltrane) and Oneness, showcase Santana's deep dive into spiritual jazz, moving away from the typical Santana sound for more personal, exploratory music.
