A YouTube viewer asked if there really was a big difference among turntables once you got to a few thousand dollars, so with permission of Rare Noise Records, here's a track form Jamie Saft's group New Zion w. Cyro (Baptista) "done two ways". The double LP album is called "Sunshine Seas" (RNR065LP). The tune is "Braziljah". First you'll hear the $3995 VPI Prime turntable and 3D printed arm fitted with a Lyra Helikon SL (about $2700 but no longer manufactured) into an Audio Alchemy PPA-1 phono preamp ($1795). Then the same song played back on a no longer manufactured Continuum Caliburn turntable ($150,000), the Swedish Analog Technologies tone arm ($30,000) and Audio Technica ART1000 phono cartridge ($5000) into the Ypsilon MC16L step transformer/VPS-100 silver wire phono preamp (about $63,000). YouTube's compression scheme mashes both equally and trust me you're not hearing what "live playback" sounds like, but this should be an interesting experiment! Enjoy the music!
