This mighty 4220 "cab forward" was caught at speed with sound somewhere near Davis California around 1955 powering a freight train headed to Sacramento and then Donner Pass! These massive and impressive locomotives were unique to the Southern Pacific and none survive today in operating condition. According to the definitive book on Cab Forwards (Those Amazing Cab Forwards by George Harlan), "No other railroad in the world had locomotives like them"! You can still go the the Sacramento Railroad Museum today and see the last one in person. It weighs in at over "A Million Pounds"! These brief scenes were shot by the late A.C. Phelps. More Cab forwards in our "Historic SP Around the Greater Bay" movie available at our website www.cspmovies.com The film is in the collection of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society - Pacific Coast Chapter.
