Lower/Shingletown//Old Laurel Run/Bald Knob Ridge Trails This is no best kept secret...there were plenty of hikers (and bikers) on some of these trails. If you wish isolation, you can find it once off the Lower Trail. You also have other loop options...I chose the longest simply because I had all day. Rothrock State Forest is just south of State College...and is situated in the ridge and valley region. Uphills and downhills will be strenuous and rocky. The Lower Trail is a rhododendron paradise. The climb up Shingletown Gap Trail is modestly gradual, but the trip down the Old Laurel Run Trail (and there is no stream along it) is steep at times. The climb up to Bald Knob Ridge is challenging, but once up...it is a long pleasurable jaunt across the top. If I lived closer...I'd be doing this more. Phil 4:13
