There is a very well known Scottish chef, who is a force to be reckoned with – a hugely talented chef, revered and feared in potentially equal measure. And not just in the kitchen, his reputation is built as much on his TV appearances as it is on his culinary prowess. Most recently he has been encouraging and coaching aspiring young food entrepreneurs, with a potential investment of £150,000 and business backing, on a TV challenge programme to find the food stars of tomorrow. The winner will undoubtedly have earned their prize, but there are inevitably ups and downs along the way; the programme title was clearly intended to be abbreviated to FFS for a reason! So, to be honest, it was with trepidation that we watched the first episode, aware that numerous Netherton pans would be appearing in a supporting role. We are delighted to report that no pans were hurt in the making of the programme and that their performance could not be faulted. What’s more, unlike one of the contestants, they made it to episode two, where one was seen on a camping stove on an Anglesey beach, cooking up a DLT, a dulse seaweed take on the classic BLT.
