Lot Dzonzi is a distinguished Malawian public servant, former law enforcement leader, and diplomat. He served as the Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service (MPS) and later as Malawi’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations. His long and varied career reflects a deep commitment to public service and ethical leadership. Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Dzonzi hails from Ntchisi District in Malawi. He began his professional life in 1987 as an English teacher at the Police Secondary School in Zomba. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He is also a deacon in the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP), a role that reflects his strong Christian faith and involvement in community life. Dzonzi’s career in the Malawi Police Service spanned several decades, during which he held numerous senior positions. These included Station Officer, Commandant of the Police College, Commissioner for Research and Planning, Commissioner for the Eastern Region, and Commissioner for Headquarters Administration. In 2012, President Joyce Banda appointed him as Inspector General of Police. Following his tenure as head of the MPS, Dzonzi moved into diplomacy and was appointed Malawi’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Outside his official roles, he is widely known as a preacher, motivational speaker, and author. He regularly shares reflections on topics such as vision, resilience, and self-reliance. His personal story includes overcoming serious health challenges, including a period when he lost the ability to walk. He often speaks about this experience as a lesson in faith and the power of a positive mindset.
