Today we are continuing our series on Titanium with the unalloyed grades aka commercially pure (CP). Four levels of purity are designated by ASTM standards as grade 1 (highest purity) to grade 4 (lowest purity). Strength trends in the inverse order, highest strength in grade 4 to lowest in grade 1. Impurities contribute solid solution strengthening in the single phase alpha structure. General corrosion resistance is very good in all but in the more aggressive environments higher purity grades perform better. Is commercially pure Titanium Magnetic? Good question.
