The Beatles were less than a month away from their "invasion of America" when U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Hal Kelley interviewed the rising stars. The interview took place in a swank hotel in Paris on a late January afternoon in 1964. Kelley, stationed in Europe for more than 30 years as a radio correspondent with the Armed Forces Network, (AFN) entered a suite at the George V Hotel on the Champs Elyses toting a studio-quality "Nagra III" tape recorder. The interview was recorded for a popular show on AFN called Weekend World. Kelley later told a reporter that the interview almost didn't make the program because a supervisor at AFN had had never heard of the Beatles. The recording was found in the audio library at the Armed Forces Network station in Kaiserslautern, Germany by C. Park Seward who made this copy.
