Both Afif Abad Garden and Narenjestan-e Ghavam are stunning historical sites in Shiraz, Iran, each with its own unique charm and history. Afif Abad Garden : Historical Significance: Afif Abad Garden, also known as Golshan Garden, dates back to the Safavid dynasty in the 16th century. It was later restored during the Qajar era. Architecture: The garden features a blend of Persian and European architectural styles, particularly from the Qajar period. The main building is a grand mansion with impressive columns and a spacious terrace. Museum: In the 20th century, the garden was repurposed to house a military museum, showcasing a broad collection of military artifacts from ancient weaponry to more recent items. Design: The garden is meticulously designed with symmetrical pathways, lush greenery, and water channels, reflecting traditional Persian garden aesthetics. Narenjestan-e Ghavam : Historical Background: Narenjestan-e Ghavam, also known as Qavam House, was built during the reign of Nasser al-Din Shah Qajar and took about 10 years to complete. It was donated to Shiraz University in 1966 and registered as a national monument in 1974. Architecture: The mansion within the garden is renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship, featuring plasterwork, mirror work, marquetry, and traditional painting. The ceilings of the rooms are beautifully carved wood, and the basement is adorned with blue and white tiles. Garden: The garden is named after the orange trees (Narenjestan) that fill the space, creating a lush and vibrant environment. Cultural Significance: The mansion’s architecture is inspired by the Zand era and designed in the Qajar style, making it a symbol of the seven Iranian arts. Both gardens offer a serene and picturesque setting, perfect for exploring the rich cultural and historical heritage of Shiraz.
