Packard Evolution (1899 - 1956) Packard was an American luxury automobile marque founded in 1899 in Warren, Ohio, by James Ward Packard. The company quickly gained a reputation for engineering excellence, innovation, and quality, becoming one of America’s premier luxury automakers by the 1920s and 1930s. Famous slogans like "Ask the man who owns one" reflected Packard's prestige, and its cars were favored by celebrities, industrialists, and even U.S. presidents. Packard introduced several firsts, including the modern steering wheel and the first production 12-cylinder engine in the 1930s. During WWII, Packard built aircraft engines, including the Rolls-Royce Merlin for the P-51 Mustang. However, after the war, it struggled to compete with the Big Three automakers. In 1954, it merged with Studebaker, a financially weaker company. The last true Packard was built in 1956, and after a few unsuccessful badge-engineered models, the brand disappeared by 1958. ——————————————————— ► Thanks for watching !
