Another take on the Kariera system: Kariera vs. Marringarr (Australian Kinship 8)

This video is part of a series about Australian Aboriginal kinship, and specifically I am looking at the so-called Kariera system of social organization, the system I was myself adopted into. I have done a number of takes on this already, but as I see it, some additional takes might be a good thing, since this type of social organization is quite alien to us Westerners who are not used to it. In the previous video, I provided an overview of the system, using Marringarr kinship terminology (Marringarr being a moribund language of Australia’s Northern Territory). In this video the question is, how do the system of the Kariera/Kariyarra tribe, the tribe that gave the system its name, and that of the Marringarr tribe (Mati Ke) differ? Because, you see, there are actually differences. Like the previous video, this video is based on information from Harold Scheffler’s book ‘Australian Kin Classification’, and also on information from Alfred Radcliffe-Brown, the one who originally described the Kariera system.
