Playful Red Deer at a Wild Spring Wallow

Joyful clips of wild deer having fun at an Exmoor Mud Wallow in Spring. All filmed between 6th of May to 8th June 2025. In past years May has been the month when I have seen least wallowing activity. By contrast, the high amount of wallowing activity this May and June could well be down partly to the very dry warm spring that we have had in 2025. In early June a bit more rain occurred and further wallowing activity was seen. Commonly, red deer wallowing is particularly associated with scent communication in the autumn rut (e.g. see my wallow playlist    • Red deer Wallowing   ), but also used by deer to cool themselves down and 'clean' their fur or drown ectoparasites etc.. I have now filmed red deer wallowing in every months of the year. The scent at wallow often seems to make the deer quite quite hyper, not just during the rut, and not necessarily just in an aggressive, but as seen here also in a very playful manner.
