Manyu Suktam is obtained from Rigveda - Mandala 10, Ashtaka 8 and Suktas 83 and 84. The word Manyu in Sanskrit roughly translates to one of temper, anger or aggression. It is henceforth attributed to Lord Manyu who in his most aggressive form destroys and diminishes the evil and protects the righteous. The Suktam begins praising Lord Manyu about his prowess and aggression. It mentions Him as the one equivalent of all the energy and aggression from Lord Indra, Agni, Varuna, Vayu and Lord Rudra. The one chanting the Suktam requests Manyu to arm them with His strength and aggression to fight the enemies (or evil). The Mantras continuously request Manyu to be on thy side and lead thy as a commander would lead an army against the evil. The essence of the Suktam at a deeper understanding should be seen as seeking help from Lord Manyu to win over one's weaknesses that hinder their path in aligning to the self realisation. Manyu Suktam is chanted in order to invoke a healthier form of aggression OR redirect one's aggression and temper towards a more focused goal to achieve greater success in one's life. Thus the Mantras help in deriving a positive outcome out of one's aggression. It is believed strongly that chanting or listening to Manyu Suktam daily helps one stay focused on their goals and help them achieve it by overcoming obstacles that occur in the path.
