In this video, I share the story of how it all began — the first strange symptoms, the slow decline, and the day I collapsed and fell down the stairs. What followed was a long and complicated road that led to a liver transplant, but also to a complete transformation of my life and work. This isn’t a medical lecture. It’s a lived experience told by someone who went through every stage — from confusion and fear, to alternative healing experiments, to addiction recovery, and finally becoming a counselor during the same year I received my transplant. Throughout the story, I talk about what was really happening inside my body: Cirrhosis of the liver: a late stage of liver disease where scar tissue replaces healthy tissue, blocking blood flow and making it harder for the liver to do its job. Hepatic encephalopathy: a serious neurological condition caused by toxins building up in the brain when the liver can’t filter them. It leads to confusion, memory loss, slurred speech, and sometimes unconsciousness. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC): the liver cancer that developed as a result of cirrhosis. TACE (Transarterial Chemoembolization): a targeted procedure where doctors deliver chemotherapy or radiation directly into the artery feeding the tumor, then block that artery to “starve” and cauterize the cancer. MELD Score (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease): the scoring system used to determine how sick a person is and how urgently they need a transplant. The higher the number, the greater the risk and the closer you are to the top of the transplant list. This video is for anyone facing liver failure, living with cirrhosis, or waiting for a transplant — and for the families walking that road alongside them. It’s not easy to talk about, but I believe the story matters.
