This is my official entry for the Indie Film Music Contest Summer 20025 (IFMC S25), animated category. "Grizzly Business" is a delightfully quirky short film that masterfully blends the mundane with the surreal. Its visual aesthetic evokes a modern, stylized take on classic stop-motion animation, creating a tangible, miniature world. The film's tone is highly reminiscent of a Wes Anderson creation meets the The Pink Panther, with its deadpan humor, meticulously crafted environments, and a narrative that finds heartfelt emotion within an absurd premise. My musical approach is designed to complement this unique style by treating the narrative with sincere emotional investment, which in turn amplifies the comedic payoff. Drawing inspiration from the whimsical orchestrations of Alexandre Desplat and the heartfelt romanticism of Rachel Portman, the score utilizes a "chamber folk" aesthetic. Distinct themes are established using a palette of character instruments including mandolin, pizzicato strings, and light percussion for the film's quirky, clockwork-like moments. This is contrasted with a warm, jazz piano atmosphere , providing the story’s emotional anchor.
