The memorial service of Cllr Xoliseka Lali was held at Mtsheko Community Hall in Cacadu under Emalahleni Local Municipality. Lali was Chief Whip of Emalahleni Local Municipality Council and Portfolio Head for Infrastructure Development and Human Settlements. This comes after Xoliseka Lali was gunned down in Komani on 22 July 2025 after the South African Police Service (SAPS) members responded to a shooting incident at a residence within the South East Village estate in, where Mr Xoliseka Lali, the Chief Whip of Emalahleni Local Municipality under the Chris Hani District was fatally wounded. According to reports, the wife of the deceased attempted to contact her husband in the early morning hours without success. Concerned, she requested her brother-in-law (the deceased's brother) to check on him at the apartment. Upon arrival, the brother found the security gate and front door open. Inside the passage, he discovered a live round of ammunition. Proceeding to the bedroom, he found his brother lying on the bed with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and back. Three suspects have appeared before the Queenstown Megistrate Court on 30 July 2025 in connection with the killing of Cllr Xoliseka Lali. On Tuesday, 28 July 2025, three suspects – two males and one female aged between 37 and 42– were apprehended. The suspects were taken in for questioning. The suspects have been formally charged with murder and will appear before the Queenstown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 30 July 2025.
