A Tribute to Sir Jonathan Miller: Wochenend und Sonnenschein ǀ English National Opera

On what would have been the theatre and opera director's 86th birthday, members of the ENO Chorus perform a special lockdown rendition of one of Jonathan Miller's favourite songs ‘Wochenend und Sonnenschein’. It was written and first performed by the Comedian Harmonists in the 1930s but in this all new version the Gentlemen of the ENO have brought it back to life with this fitting tribute to their much loved friend and colleague – Jonathan Miller who remains in our hearts and memories. The Gentlemen of the ENO first performed it at Jonathan's funeral in London on 12th December 2019 but, for what would have been his 86 birthday, they wanted to pay tribute not just to a man so many miss but to highlight a cause he would have felt so strongly about – the support of the many thousands of brilliant and talented musicians and performers who’s professional lives have been put on hold by the Covid19 Crisis with the closure of theatres, opera houses, concert halls and other venues. The Gentlemen of ENO - Is a group of tenors and basses from the chorus of English National Opera. Performing as a group of between four and sixteen singers, their exceptional technical skills allow them to cover the widest possible repertoire.
