What started as a rescue mission for one entangled seal quickly turned into a chaotic race against time. The rescuers lost sight of their first target, but luck was on their side. In the crowd, they spotted seven seals entangled in plastic and fishing gear. This is the reality of life in a plastic-polluted colony. Every day, fishing lines, nets, plastic bags, and rubber rings threaten the lives of young seals, and the rescuers have no choice but to act fast. Armed with their trusted rescue nets and Leatherman Raptor Rescue Tool, the team scrambled to secure as many seals as possible, only afterwards realizing they had rescued six animals in a single run. Today’s “plastic harvest” included one rubber o-ring, two loops of string, one fishing net, one fishing line and one veggie bag.
