Detailed Structure & Function of Adductor Magnus Structure: A large triangular muscle with proximal tendinous attachments at the pubic bone's inferior ramus, ischial ramus, and ischial tuberosity. Function: To adduct and medially rotate the thigh at hip joint. Muscle Breakdown: Attachments (this is an updated term for origin and Insertion): Long head: Origin: Ischial tuberosity of the pelvis. Insertion: Adductor tubercle on the medial condyle of the femur. Short head: Origin: Ramus of the pubis and the ischial tuberosity. Insertion: Linea aspera and adductor tubercle of the femur. Structure & Function Structure: has two distinct parts, the long and short heads, which have different origins but share a common insertion point on the femur. Function: Both heads contribute to adduction of the thigh (bringing the leg toward the midline of the body). Additionally, the adductor magnus aids in hip extension. Interesting Fact (Scholarly Citation Required- examples below): Weak hip adductors can make you knee injury prone. https://www.triathlete.com/training/injury.... Activation & Elongation: How to activate/strengthen the muscle → cable adductions, Sumo squats. How to elongate or stretch the muscle → seated or standing groin stretch.
