For the second year in a row, Antwerp has been awarded the title of Europe's 'Cocaine Capital'. Despite decades of aggressive policies aimed at eradicating drug use and trafficking, Antwerp’s rise to this dubious position underscores how these strategies have not only failed to curb the problem but may have exacerbated it. How did we get here, what are the ramifications on the ground, and what can be done to reverse the tide? Jamie Clifton is a writer and producer, who in his role as VICE Editor in Chief spent over a decade chronicling youth culture in all its forms. For the last four years, he has written and hosted 'War On Drugs', a documentary series that explores the numerous ways in which users, marginalised communities and society as a whole have been failed by drug legislation and policing. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
