According to Ovid, they were sent to the Underworld by the goddess Demeter to keep company with the young Persephone when she was abducted by the God Hades. According to Hyginus, the Sirens were fated to live only until the mortals who heard their songs were able to pass by them. Bettina performs on a LUTHIEROS ancient lyre, masterfully handcrafted in Greece with love. ⚫ Find the perfect lyre for you at https://luthieros.com/ 🔵 Learn how to play the lyre and other ancient musical instruments at https://lyreacademy.com/choose-your-n... // The Real Story of the Sirens (notes from Bettina's album) They were once human-shaped— carefree, beautiful daughters of the river god, Achelous, and companions of the young goddess Persephone, child of the great earth goddess Demeter. But when Hades, lord of the Underworld, kidnapped Persephone and stole her away beneath the earth, these young women could not help her. Afterward, perhaps through remorse, they searched over all the lands, and they prayed to the gods for wings so that they might search over all the waters. But so they might not lose their soothing, tuneful voices, maiden features and human voice remained. // Who is Bettina? (based on Homer’s Odyssey, scroll 12, lines 185-192) 🎶 🇬🇧 Lyrics in English Come here… stay your ship that you may listen to us… until one hears the sweet voice from our lips, but indeed he rejoices and goes his way much wiser. For we know all the toils… endured through the will of the gods, and we know all things which come to pass on the fruitful earth. 🎬 Film & Sound by Chris Sagias 🎙️ Sound engineer: Benj Clarke 👍 Follow us on Facebook: / seikilo ❤️ Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/luthieros/?... 🔴 For more videos like this, subscribe to our channel: / @seikilo
