Hieromartyr John Karastamatis of Santa Cruz is one of only a few Orthodox Martyrs on American soil, and little known to many of the faithful, even in California. He served as Rector at the Prophet Elias Church in Santa Cruz, the site of his martyrdom. Fr. John lived his life in the Holy Spirit and helped bring many to a fuller life in Christ. My hope is that all Orthodox, especially those in the United States, come to love Fr. John, venerate him, and ask his intercessions. It was shortly after midnight, at the early hours of May 19th, that Fr. John was martyred; therefore we commemorate him on this day. Holy Hieromartyr John, pray to God for us!
