Building a new nest takes time. Richmond spent over two hours bringing sticks and nesting material to begin nest building. The majority of the materials were delivered to the light pole where Rosie and Richmond nested the past two seasons. That light pole was cleared last November by port personnel, and many of the sticks from their old nest were placed in a new nest tub nearby. Richmond delivered a few sticks to two other light poles, but he did not deliver any to the new nest tub. His mate Rosie is expected to return from migration in the next few weeks.
