The energy of the future will travel beneath the waves: 970 kilometres of cable, connecting Sicily to Campania and Sardinia. This is the Tyrrhenian Link, a record-breaking new power line and the world’s most important project in submarine electricity transmission. The eastern section of the Tyrrhenian Link is the longest submarine connection ever realized by Terna, with around 490 km of direct current cable at depths of up to 1,560 metres. The cable connects the Fiumetorto landing point, in the municipality of Termini Imerese in Sicily, with the landing point in Torre Tuscia Magazzeno, near Battipaglia in Campania. The western section is 480 km long and connects the Fiumetorto landing point to the Terra Mala landing point in Sardinia.
